It works on the basis on law of averages. u have ppl underpaying (rational) and u have ppl overpaying. (irrational) in the long run, it evens out and it sustains. apologies but i cannot appreciate the cultural/ philosophical undertone attached to it.
that said, also on a personal level I wouldnt patronise due to the concept of reservation pricing. Every seller has a min amt he would sell at and every buyer a max he would buy at. transactions are made where they meet. Where prices are undisclosed, i wouldnt wish to either under nor over pay. (inefficiency in both) its like those on carousell saying QYOP. they end up never selling cos they alr have a price in mind which they dont disclose and the buyer has to play a guessing game. chances are the buyer underquotes and get ghosted (waste of time for buyer) or overquotes and overpays (buyer is worse off)
think about it – why did the narrator get upset when he was underpaid for the thosai? its cos he alr had a reservation price in mind and in a system that forbids rejection, rational buyers will underpay. (turns out that the same buyer's rationality dissolves for a $50 the few days later !) again the law of averages here. I may be wrong but very little ppl esp in sg would underpay given their income levels.
Secondly it plays on ego subliminally – hearing "guest is god" implies that if I am guest then within those boundaries, I am elevated to god status. fewer ppl would stoop as low as to underpay to relinquish such a status and look bad. it plays on your conscience. (explains $50 guy?) its well thought of really – but nothing philanthropic/philosophical abt it IMO. just a unique model of biz exploiting human irrationality

No more pay as you wish. There is some minimum payment. And this has been in practice for some time, may be for few years
We had gone to Annalaxmi for lunch in Singapore in August 2022. Right when you enter, the lunch & dinner rates are mentioned (SGD 15 & 18 respectively).
We were a group of 6 people and reached almost when the buffet was getting over.
The food wasn't that great with a limited number of varieties.
Anyway after we had our food, we offered the lady SGD 60 to which she made a ugly face which was extremely annoying for any tourist and said that " tum log bahar nahi khana khata kya", basically she wanted more money from us for the food.
Quite honestly, SGD 60 was more than enough for the worth of food that we had.
The way she made us feel was disgusting. Frankly, their philosophy of "Eat as You wish & Pay as you feel" is only a façade and in that name, they are trying to loot the tourists. Will never go to this place again and will never recommend this to my friends.
The lady in the Front house needs to really learn some manners & decency.
If I ever go to Singapore again, will definitely meet the owner of Annalxmi and share my feedback on her and how a façade they are running!

After watching this video, I think this Indian God restaurant shows the form of kindness to all human beings on earth as the owners of the shop serve their style of foods to us.

It's marvellous. The restaurant can survive until this day. You need courage, determination, compassion and dedication to run the restaurant in this way. I think this is the only one, perhaps the best one. Wish you all the best.

Lack of respect for self. causes people to do extrordinary things. Fear also does this to them, but at a different level. If you know yourself well enough, insanity may bother you, but it won't change it to do things you may regret, unless maybe at the verge of death. The answer to this question is simple, but yet there are so many approaches to the problem , that it is endless and changing. Really depends which world you live in. This has no say on rich and poor, but it does have to do with a naive knowledge of where and who you are. Some may understand somethings, but others dive head first and feet in. This is a way to say I have no answers, but solutions from things I am experienced to and experienced in based on my philosiphy and understanding of myself and the basic basic things I know. I do not expect and I do not try to solve, what isn't mine to know. That isn't to say, I will ever stop trying to know what's behind each crack, key hole, and door. I expect answers to things and do not need anyone to give me solutions to things I know without a second glance. I do not need people ever, and do not expect people to feed me things because they need to , but either they want to because of a self respect they give themselves or a respect I have shown, if they have never seen it elsewhere. I am only as dangerous as the limits you push, and the things I have tried to see, but you have kept hidden. In a way we are the same, but you have shown me your depths and cracked door, and I have shown and placed a wall around the heart of the matter, only for my heart to be out in the open to play and hold things for theoretical nonsense, that I see fit at that time and period. If you do see the matter around the heart, there is fire, and depending who you are, will know the dangers of stepping too close to the flame. There are words on the wall, and they stand still for all to see. If your smart, you know, and if you don't. don't regret living a life worth knowing. This is something I have not taken apart yet, but do find meaning in not knowing something for what it says, but slowly finding out, till the day I need it, and re read it in the deep manner it was written. I expect death, and I respect life. Though This restaurant is pay as you wish, The quality and taste of the dishes served here are the best in Singapore for the Indian vegetarian.
Even though I may look a jerk, I am sure this is a perfect business model to get people pay you more. Just being different gets you covered on youtube for free and noticed in the community. So you easily ensure good flow of customers. The small losses can easily be recovered. Have seen a similar concept restaurant in India, and its easy to fool people around!!!!

If he tried this stunt in India, he would go bankrupt within hours if people learn that they can pay as they wish. While we have a lot of good people in India, we also have 2 selfish ones for every good person. Anyways, this model works in high income countries where people still make enough to sustain this model.
Good gesture 👏, but in a country like Australia where people can afford to pay, why serve them free ? May be you can charge a reasonable amount. I would also like to serve in this kind of food serving restaurant, just a voluntary service to humanity

I went to an Indian restaurant in Portland the foods so salty why put so much salt 🧂 in the food. It makes me so thirsty after I ate the food. I wish they put less salt in Indian cooking.
