    Great review! I was like.. 11 minutes. Probably not going to watch it all. But I did, and I'm sold. I want something that lasts and given that this is purely mechanical aside from the heating of the water from electrical source, there is less possibility for things to fail that I can't fix myself! And yes, there's variability with tamping, timing, dosage and pressure etc – but isn't that part of the art of coffee!

    Looks like a very expensive way to injure your self during coffee brewing. If there was the original version it would make decent decoration, but there are also machines looking better. Also i heard from coffee machine seller the lever broke often in past.

    Hello James, thank you for the reviews. I'm more concern with no plastic, aluminum or rubber getting in contact with hot water than anything else. Health first. After that comes the espresso quality and price. Could you make a video about it? If you're not aware, there is a chemical from plastic, that in contact with hot liquid is making the sperm count go down. From 40 years that they are studying the sperm count from men all over the world, it already went down 50%. Look for the study in Mount Sinai hospital in New York. Thank you. Also, I'm Brazilian, and a espresso in a low income bar in any corner of Brazil is sooo good. I wonder why here it's so difficult.

    Okay, after a month of owning this machine, I figured it out.

    It isn't necessary to deconstruct the process mad-scientist style and try to optimize. It's a venerable Italian coffee machine: the science has already been done. It's like the Bialetti: just follow the instructions and you will have delicious coffee. Use a good grinder set to the appropriate mass, 13-14 g for a double. Let the machine heat up for about ten minutes and bleed off air. Make sure shower is clean, easiest way is to let some water out and wipe, just in case, which also heats the group. Grind and tamp in a normal way, install pf. Lift lever in reasonable manner, not like a gorilla. Let infuse till coffee begins to drip out of pf, even if you think that's taking a while; pull shot. Dial in grind if necessary; otherwise, enjoy delicious coffee. Make another if you wish for the man who stayed over, or for yourself for a coffee drink for later so you don't waste the electricity cooling and reheating, then stop, because why are you drinking so much espresso at one time.

    I have one of these. It's a beautiful machine but it has all the faults you mention plus the added one of taking off backwards across your counter-top if you lean too heavily on the lever without keeping a stabilizing hand on top of the filler knob. This is very entertaining for guests but they weren't all going to get a decent espresso anyway due to the infuriating temperature curve. I had thoughts of wrapping a thermocouple round the tank and hooking it up to a Raspberry Pi controlling an on/off relay on the mains input, but before I got that far I got so fed up that I retired the machine to ornament status and bought a B2C. I'll maybe get it out again and have another go when my masochism curve next peaks.

    Reading the comments further down, though, I really am tempted to have another go.

    I would look forward to a comparison between the Europiccola, the Gaggia Factory, the Olympia Cremina, and the Pontevecchio Export.

    I've done some look-upping online but people seem do have differing opinions and conclusions.

    I had a Europiccola Lusso (all chrome, including the base) back in the early 1990’s. No kitchen advert was complete without one on the counter! Great little domestic machine, but a faff to make steamed milk and get brew heat temp correct. Ultimately I felt the portafilter size was too small and changed to a La Cimbali M31 Bistro. That’s when I knew I’d lost the plot🤣🤣

    Got my baby last month, joined a fb group, watched a load of videos. Took a bit of time to dial in that sweetspot shot, but it worked with nice fresh coffee. I can steam milk but I haven't perfected the texture to be consistent. I make my friends beautiful espresso martinis and now people wanna pop by for a latte before they go to work in the morning. I love that should anything fail or break I have a resource for parts and maintaining it. Wonder which friend or relative will want it in my will hahahaha. I honestly have no complaints about heating it up or over heating because I am not making multiple shots at a time except for martinis. But steaming eggnog for warm rummy winter drinks is fabulous too! This machine gives me great joy. Was very cautious when first using it but I do find if you pump the lever twice after the first drops come through it's a lovely shot and I invested in the open portafilter

    Bought My Pavoni Pros after watching this video.
    I have a single boiler(Silvia), HX(MaraX), Pavoni PRO-PreM, Pavoni PRO-AfterM. As a pure Espresso drinker, the last 2 are my favorites.
    – Very Energy efficient if not full with water
    – Fast to operating temp. 6-8min, especially pre-M thanks to steam group head heating.
    – Temp stable. All brew water and group head equalize. Pre-M doesn't even have a plastic sleeve.
    – Pressure profile if you want.

    I used to have one. Love the design but what a pain in the ass to get a proper coffee 😅 . Gone back with a Gaggia Classic with success and then again Gone back with a french press using the Hoffman method. Perfect. Now when I want to have a good expresso I go to a coffee shop !

    Have one, replaced the seals a couple of times as well as some other components, and the heater element as well (to switch from 110 to 220V). Very maintainable, lasts forever. Very dependent on having the right grind though for a given bean.

    This was my first machine in 1988, and it was pre-owned. I found that it was really too hot on high, and too cold on low. I bought an adjustable rheostat, and dialed the voltage down to about 95-100 volts (110-120v circuits in the U.S.). That helped, but didn't really solve the problem, heat did still build up in the group head. Also, I was a bit leery of the group head dependent on the 2 small bolts attaching it to the boiler. It takes a lot of pressure on the lever to extract a coffee. If one or both of those bolts break, the result could be very catastrophic, possibly life threatening. The machine served me well enough for about 3 years, Then I found a 1978 single group Conti manual. I've been operating that machine daily for 30+ years, About 6 moths ago I had it completely renovated by Fabrice Moschetti up in Vallejo. He's been selling and renovating Conti machines for over 30 years, he's the California expert on their machines.

    I bought mine in Naples, Italy in 2000. It has travelled to UK, Falkland Islands, Chile and now has a home in NSW! I switch mine off after each pour and never had to change a thing. Only now in Sept 2022, I will look to completing a full service. Best Coffee machine ever for me, on so many levels. Preparation adds to mindfulness and gratefulness.

    Sorry I'm seeing this 2 years late! Thanks for the review. I've had a machine since the 90s. My first one was used, bought from Tony, one of the sons running Cafe Roma on Columbus in North Beach, San Francisco. It was his own personal machine, circa late 80s I think, but decided to sell it. (Sadly, that Cafe and his sister's location that was over on Bryant are both closed now). Anyway, I used that machine daily for decades. There was a shop in North Beach that repaired them called Thomas Cara; by the time I was going there, Thomas's son Chris was running the shop. He kept the machine in tip top shape. He's also retired from the biz. I have a guy I use is SoCal who is good. Fast forward to recently. I moved south, and I sent my machine to live in Buffalo (long story), so I needed another for here. I spent months lurking on eBay, and was shocked to see the prices of used units were going for close to what a new one costs (which now in 2022 is ~$1000). I was always getting out bid, so I switched and started stalking craigslist, and finally found one for 1/2 new price. This one is a 2015, and is quite different. I'm slowly getting use to it. But, even on bad days, the result is far better than any other machine I've ever used.
